About this property

The property is situated in El Cuarton Alto Urbanisation, centre of international tourist interest and set between the Los Alcornocales National Park and the Straits of Gibraltar National Park.

The grounds, set in the same entrance of El Cuarton Alto Urbanisation has a total area of 3.267 square metres on land ascending to the mountain and includes panoramic views of the Straits of Gibraltar to Africa and corners the main access to the Urbanisation with a 160 meter wall.

The entrance has an access for cars, on a drive of reinforced concrete (Gris-Pizarra) 120 metres long and 4 meters wide, bordered with railway sleepers and keeping with the natural surroundings.

The garden has been landscaped allowing for the natural flora, which include a great variety of trees and bushes, to flourish. To the north of the plot a bamboo wood lends an exotic touch and there is a mountain stream flowing down from the mountains over rocks and stones which at various points fills ponds and flows over waterfalls. Two wooden bridges cross the stream allowing you the opportunity to enjoy the lovely sight of the flowing water.

Strolling through the northern part of the grounds with its rocks, ancient oaks, ferns and heathers you get the feeling of actually walking through the Alcornocales Park.

In the southern part of the grounds which is more open and sunny there are oaks, olive trees, pine and fruit trees and a lawn. The oleander and honeysuckle give an exotic touch, picturesque in their Mediterranean colours. Along the rock terracing and in the rockeries are miniature palms, palmettos, clivias, rosemary and a great variety of agapanthus which give a striking display of colour in the flowering season.

The grounds with its 500 trees including ancient oaks, olives, pines and free trees, views of Africa, all set in a microclimate 500 metres above sea level is a very special place.

The property is 10 kms from the town of Algerciras and the Marina, 20 kms from Gibraltar Airport and the La Alcaidesa Golf Club, 10 kms from the famous beaches of Tarifa, 40 kms from the Sotogrande Golf Club and just a few meters from the pathways and tracks of the National Parks of Alcornocales and the Straits of Gibraltar, ideal for hiking or mountain biking.

Set in the highest part of the grounds on a north/south axis giving protection from the characteristic east and west winds, as well as making the most of the spectacular views; to the south across the National Park, over the Straits through which shipps navigate and to the African coastline and its mountains beyond. To the north, the views are to the mountains of the Alcornocales Park.

This modern house was designed by the Architect Alicia Carrio, resident in the Costa del Sol and familiar with the area. It is quite spectacular, with its full length picture windows both front and back, (north and south), so that from any point in the house, the views of Africa and the Alcornocales National Park mountains can be enjoyed.

The ground floor comprises of a large entrance hall and to the left access to a service area (which has its own independent access from the outside, and consists of a large bed sitting room, bathroom and utility room.) Across the hall from this is a large study/library with views to the bamboo wood and stream.

To the right is a large gallery with glass and steel walls from where there is access to the spacious kitchen, dining room and lounge areas – all have large picture windows that open out onto terraces.

From the entrance hall a splendid wooden and iron staircase, illuminated by a large glass wall, leads up to the 4 large bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom and private terrace with views to the north or south of the property.

The outside terrace has barbeque area etc. Cool in the heat of summer to the north, warm for the winter to the south.

The house also has a semi basement where there is a gym and a general room where the heating and hot water systems are installed and where the garden tools are stored.

The design of the building combined with the use of premium quality materials throughout add up to a really spectacular house.
